HOW TO · SOURCE & SCENARIOS

Edit the source. Follow the consequence.

Use the live cantilever calculator as a page you can read, question and change. The same quantities drive its inputs, equations, drawing and checks.

1. Start with an input

length = 300 mm in 100..500

= declares an editable input. The unit travels with the value; the range sets its allowed interval and supplies the slider bounds. Change the length and watch the calculated deflection update.

2. Follow an equation to its check

inertia := width * depth^3 / 12 [mm^4]
check tip deflection: deflection <= 2 mm

:= declares a calculated quantity. The bracket gives its output unit. The check states a requirement; a failed check is a calculated outcome you can investigate.

3. Compare an alternate scenario

scenario more reach: length = 500 mm

A scenario supplies overrides while preserving the baseline. Choose it in Model, then compare the deflection and geometry. Scenario inputs edit that scenario’s values. Give every scenario a unique name and keep overrides within the declared input ranges.

4. Use the diagnostic to fix the source

Duplicate declarations, unknown units, missing quantities and out-of-range inputs produce explanations with a suggested repair. A squiggly underline marks a located issue. Click its line and column to select the source. Correct the declaration rather than hiding the error by changing an unrelated equation.

5. Save a Study with the plugin

The website example recalculates temporary source automatically. In the plugin’s Study view, edits preview as a draft. Apply source saves the complete document; Reset draft returns to the saved text. If another edit changes the Study, reconcile the draft against the current revision before applying it.

Your agent can read, validate and apply complete source through napkin_source. napkin_sketch remains the additive tool for fragments. Drawing records, notes and reference images can live alongside the source-owned model.
